Umar Abdul Hamid

CEO, Green Stone Investment

Umar is a serial entrepreneur and an angel investor actively investing in startups in fintech (financial technology) and media technology in the United States and Singapore. He invests at an early stage and works closely with founders to build startups beyond the idea stage.

He has been been involved in  startups for the last four years - investing and working with young and smart entrepreneurs of various nationalities in New York. Throughout the four years, he has built the startup ecosystem in the United States and been tapping it to launch and develop a new ecosystem in Singapore as he plans to setup an accelerator focusing on Internet-of-Things (IOT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Prior to that, Umar has been for the past eighteen years deeply involved in managing, acquiring and divesting public and private companies. He has in-depth experience in renewable and conventional energy, infrastructure, manufacturing, technology, food and services industry. Equipped with many years of operational business acumen, Umar usually takes an active role as Executive Chairman or CEO in most companies in which he has invested.

His past appointments include serving as Chairman and Member of the Board of Directors of several public companies, namely KFC Berhad, QSR Brands Berhad (Malaysia’s only fully-integrated food operator and dominating the country’s retail food industry), First Engineering Ltd (a leading manufacturer of ultra-precision mold and plastic components for high-technology engineering applications with operations in Singapore, Malaysia, China and India), and ZingMobile Ltd (a pioneer for publishing value-added mobile content, services and applications). He also served as CEO of Reed Group Holdings Ltd (re-named as China Entertainment Sports Ltd) and Executive Director of Strike Engineering Ltd (providing a fully integrated range of mechanical and electrical engineering services, re-named as Magnus Energy Ltd). Prior to that, Umar was a Project Engineer with Alstom Group (France), where he managed power distribution projects, installing high-voltage switchgears in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and France. He also served as the Manager of Industry Development at the Singapore Polytechnic, supporting technology and knowledge transfer from engineering institutions to companies.

Umar has served as elected Member of Parliament of Singapore as well as both Vice-Chairman and Chairman of Middle East Business Group at Singapore Business Federation. He has been an Advisor to several non-profit and non-government organizations, supplementing social, educational, and economic development initiatives. Presently he is the Advisor to the Harvard Club of Singapore catering the networking and interest of Harvard Alumni in Singapore.
A Fulbright Scholar, Umar earned his Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, Master of Education focused on Administration, Planning and Social Policy from Harvard Graduate School of Education, and Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Arizona. He was a participant of the Owner-President Management (OPM ’35) Program at the Harvard Business School. He writes and speaks fluent English, French, and Malay.

Nizam Ismail is a Partner and Head of the Regulatory Practice of RHTLaw Taylor Wessing LLP. He is also Co-Founder of RHT Compliance Solutions, a leading regulatory compliance consultancy based in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Hong Kong.

Nizam comes from a regulatory and compliance background.

Nizam Ismail is a Partner and Head of the Regulatory Practice of RHTLaw Taylor Wessing LLP. He is also Co-Founder of RHT Compliance Solutions, a leading regulatory compliance consultancy based in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Hong Kong. Nizam helps financial institutions, corporates and FinTech platforms with various legal and regulatory compliance issues, and to also design practical and risk-focused compliance programmes.

Nizam comes from a regulatory and compliance background.  He was formerly Deputy Director and Head of the Market Conduct Policy Division of the Monetary Authority of Singapore, Head of Compliance for Southeast Asia at Lehman Brothers and Morgan Stanley in Singapore.  He was also Deputy Public Prosecutor/State Counsel at the Commercial Affairs Department and Senior Legal Counsel at Citigroup.

Nizam serves as a Council member in the Singapore Institute of International Affairs, as Head of Regulatory Sub-Committee of ACCESS (an association of blockchain platforms) and Director in AMPRO Holdings Pte Ltd.  Nizam was formerly the founding President of Young AMP and Chairman of the Association of Muslim Professionals.

Suhaimi Salleh

Suhaimi is the CEO of SSA Consulting Group (SSA), a group of companies that provide professional services in management consulting and training. SSA has been ranked in Singapore SME 1000 for the last 6 consecutive years.

Suhaimi has almost 40 years of post-graduate experience in audit & finance, management consulting and corporate training. His expertise includes finance, productivity and human capital development in a broad range of industries, including non-profits. He also conducts training in charities’ finance and accounting at the Social Service Institute, Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants, SMU-Lien Foundation iLEAP Programme for Charity Leaders and Singapore Institute of Directors’ Non-Profits Leaders Programme.

Suhaimi is also active in charity and non-profit organisations. He is currently:

Tengku Sri Indra has forty years of track record in General Management, Human Resource and Sales both as a Corporate Officer in Multi-National Companies and the Consulting Network in the Asia Pacific Region across various industries.

As the Chief Executive of SDG International, Tengku and his Consulting Team service clients across industries in the Asia Pacific focusing on Leadership in Sales and Service for mid to C-Suite talents.

Tengku Sri Indra has forty years of track record in General Management, Human Resource and Sales both as a Corporate Officer in Multi-National Companies and the Consulting Network in the Asia Pacific Region across various industries.

Upon graduating with a Second Class Upper Division Honors Degree from the then University of Singapore (Now National University of Singapore) in 1976,Tengku as a Public Service Commission Special Malay Bursary Holder, joined the newly set-up subsidiary of the Singapore Airlines Group – Singapore Airport Terminal Services as a Management Trainee. He subsequently advanced to become a Personnel Manager of The Straits Steamship Group (now Keppel Corporation) before he was finally head-hunted to join Monsanto USA - one of the World’s largest Bio-Technology Company. At Monsanto, he was initially the Asia Pacific Human Resource Development Manager and then the Country Director for Indonesia where he relocated for seven years as an expatriate.

Upon returning to Singapore, Tengku capped his corporate career as Monsanto’s Regional Sales Director for Resins Chemicals – Southern Asia.

Having spent a total of twenty years in the corporate world, Tengku moved on in 1996 to set up a Regional Training and Consulting Company – Strategic Development Group International (SDG International) based initially in Jakarta and now in Kuala Lumpur.
As the Chief Executive of SDG International, Tengku and his Consulting Team service clients across industries in the Asia Pacific focusing on Leadership in Sales and Service for mid to C-Suite talents.

On the social-voluntary front, Tengku is a very active Rotarian holding a key position in Vocational Service in the Rotary Club of Raffles City. For two successive years 2015-2016, Tengku received the Rotary District 3300 Outstanding Leadership Award in Vocational Service. On his free time, Tengku enjoys mentoring and coaching young graduates on how they could navigate their careers successfully in the working world.

 

Azhar Othman

Regional Managing Director, Enercon Asia

Azhar Othman is the founder and CEO of Zaffra Innovators and Leaders Pte Ltd which created the multi-tiering platform for CEOs, Professionals and Graduates to be part of an eco-system of superior network.

His management style and strong business acumen has made the companies under him grew globally and leaders in their field.

He has a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore and a degree with honours in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from University of Salford in Manchester, UK in 1999.

Azhar was trained in Nagasaki, Japan for 1 year in the field of control systems for power plant where he had successfully commissioned 6 x 100MW Gas Turbine Generator in Ghom and Kazerun, Iran where he stayed for 2 years.

His in depth knowledge in the field of electrical engineering primarily in the energy sector made him well versed and very knowledgeable in such field having been involved more than 25 years and travelled to more than 20 countries tendering, training and executing projects.

He is currently the ambassador for SP Jain School of Global Management, top 5 business school in Asia as ranked by Forbes, where he graduated with Master of Business Administration (Executive) in 2014 and was awarded the recognition of being an exemplary ambassador in 2015 and 2016 having promoted and supported his alma mater with sincerity and dignity.

He is also the Regional Managing Director of Enercon Asia where he has been leading and managing since 2002.

At the age of 35, he led and managed Enercon Asia, grown the business from a single office operation to having branch offices in Malaysia, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Philippines and appointed dealers and attained Principals in United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Italy and Denmark plus wining award such as Middle East Supplier of The Year in 2015. In addition, ee holds several other key management positions such as CEO of Enercon Pakistan and Chairmanship/Directorship of 8 other companies all over Asia.

He is a certified Business Professional having completed a 2 years course in 2015 conducted by The Aji Network in San Jose, California where top business professionals in USA were trained.

His management style and strong business acumen has made the companies under him grew globally and leaders in their field.

He is an advocator of lifelong learning and attaining uncommon knowledge and would like to see new leaders being groomed to take on key roles. In the world of VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity), Azhar strongly believes adopting and adapting is key and having the right mentors and superior network will ensure graduates and professionals be guided properly at the same time holding high ethics and integrity in performing their professional duties.

Azhar is married to Sitihumaira Mohamed Rashid and have 5 lovely children.
